Recently, interest in at-home skincare has been growing rapidly.
Among various home-care products, “Riddle Shot” has become a hot topic in Korea, selling out repeatedly at Daiso stores.
In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what Riddle Shot is and what to keep in mind when using it.
What is Riddle Shot?

Riddle Shot is a product by VT COSMETICS, composed of the following ingredients.
In cosmetic ingredient lists, components are written in descending order of concentration, meaning the ingredients listed first are the main components.
In most cosmetics, the primary ingredient is purified water, and the long, complex English names that follow usually represent emulsifiers, solvents, or viscosity regulators — in other words, not the ingredients that directly create skincare effects.
Therefore, aside from the key ingredients highlighted in red, most other components function as stabilizers and texture modifiers.
Niacinamide and Adenosine are skin booster ingredients used for brightening and wrinkle improvement,
while Centella Asiatica extract (CICA), Asiaticoside, and Madecassoside are well-known as the main ingredients in Madecassol, a skin regeneration ointment.
Finally, ingredients such as Glycine and Cysteine listed at the end are amino acid-based skin booster components.
Features of Riddle Shot

The most distinctive feature of Riddle Shot is its use of microscopic needle-like structures called “Spicules,” which are purified and coated with CICA extract (Centella Asiatica) on their surface.

The spicules create microscopic channels on the skin’s surface, enhancing the absorption of active ingredients.
This mechanism is similar to the MTS (Microneedle Transfer System) introduced earlier, and it is said to help improve skin turnover, wrinkles, and acne scars.
Is it really effective?

Riddle Shot contains ingredients that provide moisturizing, nourishing, and soothing effects
(the exact concentrations are not disclosed).
In addition, its 15-micrometer silica needles may help improve skin texture and enhance ingredient absorption.
However, it’s important to note —
this is not a unique “spicule effect” exclusive to Riddle Shot.
The spicules in Riddle Shot function much like a physical exfoliant (scrub), promoting epidermal turnover similar to chemical peels,
thereby contributing to brightening, pore refinement, and the improvement of fine lines and acne.
That said, the spicules measure only about 15 micrometers, meaning they act only on the epidermis (which is roughly 100 micrometers thick).
Unlike MTS, which reaches the dermis layer (1–2 mm deep), Riddle Shot has minimal effect on acne scars or deeper concerns.
Precautions for Use
Riddle Shot should be used with the same caution as peeling or scrub products.

1️⃣ Be cautious if you have sensitive skin, melasma, psoriasis, or atopic dermatitis.
Using Riddle Shot together with acidic ingredients such as tretinoin, retinol, vitamin C serums, AHA, or LHA may cause excessive irritation.
Since melasma can worsen due to physical or chemical stimulation, avoid using this product on melasma-prone skin.
Similarly, those with psoriasis or atopic dermatitis, whose skin turnover is already accelerated, should refrain from using it.
2️⃣ Avoid using Riddle Shot together with peels or scrub products.
Because Riddle Shot itself has an exfoliating (keratolytic) effect, combining it with other peeling agents can over-sensitize the skin and lead to inflammation.
✅ Correct Usage

Riddle Shot comes in five variants — 50, 100, 300, 700, and 1000.
The higher the number, the greater the silica content, resulting in a thicker texture and stronger stimulation.
👉 For first-time users, it’s best to start with “100”,
then gradually move up to “300” or “700” as your skin adjusts.
When to use: Because mild irritation may occur, it’s better to apply it at night rather than in the morning.
Frequency: You can use it daily, but if you feel stinging or dryness, take a break of at least three weeks to allow your skin barrier to recover.
Amount: Apply once nightly, using an appropriate amount evenly over the face without rubbing too hard.
Difference Between VT COSMETICS and Daiso Versions

Both versions share almost the same ingredients and mechanism.
While the VT COSMETICS version is said to use a more refined spicule purification process,
the Daiso version shows little difference in efficacy and offers excellent cost performance.

3-Line Summary
1️⃣ Riddle Shot contains fine spicules and skin-boosting ingredients.
2️⃣ Its mechanism is similar to peeling, promoting epidermal turnover — avoid combining with scrubs or peels.
3️⃣ Since the skin can become sensitive afterward, it’s not recommended for those with melasma, psoriasis, or atopic dermatitis.
This concludes the explanation of Riddle Shot.
