These days, Rejuran treatments are offered at most aesthetic clinics, so many of you have probably heard the name.
What are Rejuran’s ingredients and effects?

The main ingredient in Rejuran is a substance called Polynucleotide (PN), which is extracted from salmon testes.
PN is one of the fundamental components that make up DNA in the human body, and when injected into the dermis, it promotes wound healing and skin regeneration.
As a result, Rejuran not only improves skin elasticity, but also enhances the overall quality of the dermal layer itself.
In recent years, newer brands using trout-derived PN instead of salmon have also appeared—such as Rezenne, Vitaran, and Philod. Among these, Rezenne and Philod are the most commonly seen on the market, with nearly identical ingredients and similar results (and yes, the pain level is about the same…).
What’s the difference between PDRN and PN?

Some people think that Rejuran’s main ingredient is PDRN, but PDRN and PN are actually different substances, even though they share the same goals — dermal regeneration and wound repair (and yes, there’s quite a price difference between them).
Originally, PDRN, known as the “salmon injection,” was used as a dermal injection.
Even today, PDRN is widely used in injections, skin boosters, and cosmetics, and while it’s helpful for skin regeneration, it has one major drawback — it breaks down quickly.
To overcome that limitation, PN was developed.
The main difference between the two lies in their molecular structure.
PN is composed of long, repeating chains of the same structural unit, and its molecular weight is at least 3 to 4 times greater than that of PDRN.
Because of this, PN tends to stay longer within the skin, and its ability to bind moisture gives the skin a noticeable glow or dewy appearance (often referred to as the “water-glow” effect).
What are the types of Rejuran?
Rejuran mainly comes in the following four types:

Rejuran (Standard)
The original, standard formulation of Rejuran.
Rejuran S (Scar) — Designed specifically for scar improvement, this version has a higher PN concentration than the standard type.
Because of the higher concentration, swelling or bumps (known as “embossing”) tend to last longer, and the price is higher.
Rejuran I (Eye) — A specialized formula for the eye area. Since the skin around the eyes is thinner and prolonged swelling can be uncomfortable, this version contains a lower PN concentration.
However, despite the reduced concentration, it’s generally more expensive.
Rejuran HB — Marketed as the “painless Rejuran.”
It contains lidocaine (a local anesthetic), making the injection less painful, but the price is higher—even though lidocaine itself is a very inexpensive drug.
What matters when choosing a Rejuran treatment?
-
Reasonable treatment pricing
Because the raw material itself is expensive, the price per session tends to be high.
However, there’s no need to pay an unnecessarily high price for the same formulation.
It’s best to compare Rejuran prices among different clinics first. -
Injection depth and coverage area
Clinical studies demonstrating Rejuran’s effectiveness were conducted by injecting the product precisely into the dermis.

A Phase III, Randomized, Double-Blind, Matched-Pairs, Active-Controlled Clinical Trial and Preclinical Animal Study to Compare the Durability, Efficacy and Safety between Polynucleotide Filler and Hyaluronic Acid Filler in the Correction of Crow’s Feet: A New Concept of Regenerative Filler, Chang Sik Pak(2014)
Because the facial dermis is less than 2 mm thick, accurately delivering an entire 2 cc (one syringe) of Rejuran into the dermis is not easy.
One reason the same injection may “work for some but not for others” is that it was not administered at the correct (dermal) layer

If the injection is properly administered into the dermis, it is normal for small, uneven bumps (embossing) to appear on the skin’s surface.
When the full 2cc is injected correctly into the dermis with minimal loss outside the skin, it can be densely and evenly distributed across the entire face, excluding the forehead.
(Immediately after treatment, these bumps may look quite prominent, but they usually subside quickly with gentle pressure.)
If, after treatment, there are almost no visible bumps, or if only the nasolabial area (“butterfly zone”) was treated despite using a full 2cc syringe, it likely means that the product was not injected at the correct depth, and a significant amount was lost.

Possible side effects include bruising, infection, or bleeding.
In general, with 2cc, it is possible to adequately fill both cheeks, as shown above.
If this were a photo taken purely for promotional purposes, the injection marks would likely have been arranged more evenly and aesthetically.
However, since Rejuran treatments are not typically photographed for before-and-after comparison, we used an image from an actual clinical case.
(The photo was taken during a busy period, so please understand that some areas may not appear perfectly uniform.)
I’m not trying to boast about being “skilled” or to show off my technique.

However, if you received 2 cc of Rejuran and your skin did not at least look like the case shown above, it is highly likely that the injections were placed too deep or that a large portion was lost.
Even if you are drawn in by online promotional photos from “clinics that are great at Rejuran” showing densely packed shots, in reality the staff may be too busy to inject that densely, or the images may not actually reflect the results of a full 2 cc treatment.
