Today, I’ll be talking about Juvelook, one of the most popular treatments among the many collagen boosters.
While Juvelook targets results through a mechanism similar to Sculptra (PLLA), it is chosen by many because it generally has fewer side effects and is more budget-friendly.

However, it’s also true that outcomes vary depending on the injection technique.
While pain and swelling usually subside naturally over time, nodules—if they occur—can persist for a long period, so caution is necessary.
In this article, I explain why Juvelook can cause nodule-related side effects and how to prevent them.

About the “effects” of Juvelook (kept brief to match the title)

Promotion of collagen neogenesis: PLLA microparticles induce inflammatory remodeling in the dermis, gradually supporting collagen production over time.
Texture & firmness improvement: Aims to soften fine lines, refine skin texture, and increase elasticity.
Focus on “natural change”: Unlike hyaluronic acid, which adds immediate volume, changes appear gradually after about 2–3 weeks and settle over 1–3 months.
Sessions & intervals: Typically 2–3 sessions spaced several weeks to a few months apart, depending on the condition (individual variation).
Results and longevity vary by person; proper planning and injection technique are crucial.
1. What are the side effects of Juvelook?
The most common are post-procedure pain and swelling.
Because nerves and blood vessels run through the face like a network, accidentally irritating them during treatment can cause neuralgia, bruising, bleeding, and marked swelling.
Juvelook is usually administered with a blunt-tip cannula, so nerve or vessel injury is relatively uncommon; however, forcing passage with excessive pressure increases the risk of damage.
Juvelook nodule (granuloma):
The most serious adverse event is the formation of nodules (Nodule/Granuloma).

Especially when small, bumpy nodules form under the eyes, they are unlikely to resolve spontaneously, and in severe cases, surgical removal may be required.

Why do nodules occur with Juvelook?
(1) Issues in the practitioner’s “hydration (dissolution)” process
Juvelook is a porous, bead-like product, and the vial itself contains lyophilized powder.
Before treatment, it must be thoroughly dissolved in normal saline using a shaker, etc., for at least two hours.
If this step is insufficient, clumps of powder can remain locally and lead to nodule formation.

(2) Issues with injected volume
Juvelook stimulates collagen-producing cells and induces inflammatory remodeling.
If an excessive amount is injected into a specific area, disproportionate inflammation can occur there, leading to side effects such as nodules.
(3) Injection site and depth
Juvelook should, in principle, be placed in the lower dermis.
However, if you inject thin-skinned areas (especially under the eyes or the forehead) at the same depth/design as other regions, nodules are more likely to become noticeable.
(4) Concentration
Although there is a manufacturer-recommended concentration, it can be too high for thin-skinned areas.
3. How to prevent nodule-related side effects

It’s basic to put the above causes into practice in the exact opposite way.
Adequate hydration (dissolution) before treatment
Thoroughly agitate for at least 2 hours and use only after the solution is homogeneous.
Accurate depth and appropriate injection volume
Avoid overinjection and strictly observe anatomy and tissue planes.
Use a “lower concentration” for thin or delicate skin areas
Adjust the concentration by site to reduce the risk of visible or palpable irregularities.
By following just these three points, you can greatly reduce adverse effects and make outcomes more stable.
Of course, fully implementing these steps takes time, and it also requires the extra work of adjusting concentrations for each patient.
However, because nodules are an irreversible risk that may require surgery in severe cases, a safety-first treatment design is essential.
I hope this is helpful to many readers.
