Various skin lesions such as moles, milia, flat warts, syringomas, and sebaceous hyperplasia can create uneven textures on the face, giving it a rough or bumpy appearance.
Among these, flat warts are contagious and can spread further, so removing them early is actually the most cost-effective option.
More importantly, blemishes and moles can make the entire face look blotchy, which is why many people visit dermatology clinics specifically for mole removal.
So, what makes the so-called "holy grails" of mole removal in Korea so popular?
Let’s take a look at what sets them apart.
“Is this really a mole?” Start with an accurate diagnosis by a doctor
The first and most important step in mole removal is getting an accurate diagnosis.

The most important factor in mole removal is an accurate diagnosis.
Some moles can be safely removed, but forcing removal without proper assessment can lead to significant scarring or pigmentation.
In some cases, what appears to be a mole may actually be a type of hyperpigmentation—or even an early stage of skin cancer.

Attempting to remove a mole casually can sometimes make the pigmentation darker, leave scars, or complicate future diagnoses.
That’s why it’s crucial to begin with a professional consultation for an accurate evaluation.
The Quality of Lasers Used for Mole Removal

The next important factor is the type of laser device used.
For mole removal, the two main types of lasers are the Erbium laser and the CO2 laser.
(For a detailed comparison of the two, please refer to our previous article.)
In the past, we preferred using the Erbium laser, but recently, we've shifted toward the CO2 laser.
The reason is that newer CO2 laser devices support smaller handpieces that allow for more precise treatment, and their older
drawback—heat damage—has been significantly reduced with the latest technology.
At our clinic, we currently use the latest CO2 laser model called Azur, which features an ultra-pulse function.
This allows for high output and short exposure times, enabling clean and precise mole removal.
Expertise in Minimizing Scarring

To prevent scarring, the most important step is using the latest CO2 laser devices mentioned earlier.
(Older machines often caused heat damage, which frequently led to scarring.)
In addition, it’s essential to have the expertise to assess the size and depth of the mole and determine exactly how much to remove.
Having removed tens of thousands of moles, I have a clear understanding of which cases tend to leave scars and which methods can avoid them.
For example, in cases where scarring is likely, we use techniques such as the pin hole method, which involves removing the mole gradually over multiple sessions rather than all at once.
This requires especially delicate laser settings and precise control.
It’s this kind of experience and technical skill that has earned us a reputation as a true “go-to destination” for scar-free mole removal.
