Have you ever heard of Sculptra or Juvelook (Volume)?

These days, many dermatology clinics offer treatments using these products, so you may already be familiar with them.

Juvelook is a collagen booster that uses the chemical compound PDLA (Poly D-lactic Acid), and like Sculptra (PLLA), it is used for improving wrinkles, scars, and for lifting effects.

Similar products include Sculptra, Collaum, Blossom, and Ultracoll.

(Since each product contains different ingredients, I plan to introduce them in a separate post.)

One of the main advantages of Juvelook is its price.

The price of one vial of Juvelook Volume is at least three times lower than that of Sculptra, and the overall treatment cost also differs significantly.

However, since there is little difference in effectiveness, Juvelook has gained wide popularity.

That said, dermatology clinics usually sell Juvelook not by the vial, but by the cc. Have you ever considered what would be a fair price in this case?

A new vial contains powder, not liquid.

Therefore, after adding saline solution, a mixing device is used to hydrate the solution thoroughly, going through a hydration process that takes about 40 minutes, as shown in the video below.

Once hydration is complete, an opaque solution like this is produced.

Did you notice?

Since dermatology clinics sell Juvelook by the cc rather than by the vial, the amount that can be extracted from a single vial depends on the dilution ratio.

According to the manufacturer's guidelines, one vial of Juvelook Volume should yield 8cc. However, if it is diluted more than that for the clinic's profit, the effectiveness may be reduced accordingly.

(Some clinics use as much as 10cc per vial.)

So, how can you avoid wasting your money on expensive Juvelook Volume?

Compared to "Skin" type products, Juvelook Volume contains higher concentrations of PDLA and HA (hyaluronic acid), making it a treatment that not only boosts collagen but also adds volume similar to a filler.

The most important aspect during the procedure is injecting the solution into the correct skin layer.

To achieve optimal results, the lower dermis should be carefully separated using a cannula, and the solution should be evenly distributed in small amounts to prevent clumping.

However, if the cannula goes even slightly too deep and the solution is injected into the fat layer, the effectiveness may be significantly reduced—even if you’ve paid a high price.

That’s why it’s important to receive the treatment from a doctor who has excellent cannula technique.

To find a clinic skilled in Juvelook, check whether they specialize in fillers or thread lifting, as both require advanced cannula skills.

To check whether the price per cc is reasonable, try discreetly asking the nurse preparing the treatment, "How many cc of saline are added to one vial of Juvelook Volume?"

※ The standard is 8cc.

Here is a summary of the principles, types, and side effects of all collagen boosters commonly used in dermatology clinics:

3-Line Summary

  • Juvelook uses PDLA, a component similar to the PLLA found in Sculptra, to stimulate natural collagen regeneration.

  • For best cost-effectiveness, Juvelook Volume should be hydrated with 8cc of saline per vial.

  • If Juvelook is injected into the fat layer instead of the lower dermis, it will have little effect and the cost may go to waste.

I hope this information is helpful to many of you.
